Native Trees:
Blue Palo Verde
This tree is a green trunked, feathery ended, greenish-blue leafed tree that is iconic to the southwestern desert.
Texas Ebony
This tree is native to the Texas area and is used where the surrounding area is made up of muted greens.Â
Desert Willow
This tree is lightly aromatic and adds an element of cooling to the garden landscape. Its pink blossoms decorate the summer landscape which hang from its branches.
Honey Mesquite
The leaves of this tree are made up of 10-12 leaflets, which are from 1-2 inches long. This tree also adds a fresh green glow to the landscape.
Feather Bush
This fern like plant adds a texture that is feathery and soft. This plant is a very light green and can be grown as a large shrub or medium size tree.
Native Flowers:
Autumn Sage
This is a perennial plant with red, purple, pink, or violet flower clusters with evergreen foliage. This flower blooms late summer through fall.
Yellow Columbine
This is a flower that attracts butterflies and hummingbirds and is one of the most graceful desert plants. It is very heat-tolerant, tough, and is very vigorous.
Wine Cups
This is a flower that shows red flowers from late spring until midsummer. It is very tough and even when not blooming, it makes a stunning addition to a desert garden.
Bunny Ear Cactus
This plant rarely produces sharp spines and its flowers appear from springtime until late summertime.
Texas Red Yucca
This provides bright red flowers that will attract some hummingbirds. Also, like other southwestern natives, it can survive through heat and drought, and very reliable.
